Sainte-Croix Syrah-Merlot 2006

The label of this Sainte-Croix Syrah-Merlot claims that it has “superb, bright range of fruity aromas (blackcurrant, strawberry and cherry) and sweet spices (cinnamon, peppers).” It definitely has a sweet, fruity aroma. The smell reminds me of licking sweet drink powders off my fingers as a child. The scent has that sort of concentrated fruitiness to it. It is quite a yummy smell.

It is a tasty blend of Syrah and Merlot. There is a slight spiciness from the syrah, which adds some kick to the gulpablilty of the Merlot, while the Merlot softens the Syrah bite.

The finish is lingering, and quite sweet. The scent seems to linger, as well. This would be a good introduction to Syrah for people who have grown tired of straight Merlot.
